Vic Widman has been 4wdriving since 1978 and during that time has lived the dream that most of wish for. Apart from writing for various 4×4 magazines such as Overlander, 4×4 Australia and Unsealed 4×4, he has written three books, coordinated the filming of numerous 4WD DVD’s and has a weekly spot on radio talking all things 4WD but he also owns and operates Great Divide Tours. Great Divide Tours is Australia’s largest and longest running 4WD tag-along and 4WD driver training business.
Vic has built what many consider to be the best 4WD training centre in the country and it is located just 10 minutes drive from our camp at Stuarts Crossing. Vic has invited anyone who wishes to come down to his property on Friday 29 March to have a guided tour of the training centre. Vic will showcase his property which covers 240 acres, with 12 kilometres of4WD tracks on it, built with the express purpose of4WD training. This training centre is used by numerous4WD magazines for road testing vehicles, it has played a pivotal role in many4WD of the Year test programs, and in 2018 there were over 200 days of4WD training conducted at the property. Clients such as the Australian Federal Police, the Australian Defence Force, the SES and Snowy Hydro use Vic’s services for their nationally recognised training. Vic will provide us with a 2 hour tour around the training centre along with tea and coffee. Make sure you register for this special tour to take place from 10 am on Friday 29 March. - $21.25 per person if four in the car.
- Meet at 9792 Nerriga Rd, Durran Durra NSW at 10am

Given that we are so close to Vic and his training centre, we asked Vic if there was anywhere special nearby that he could show us. So he put together a delightful half day 4WD tag-along tour through Monga National Park just south of Braidwood. The plan is to meet Vic at his training centre just up the road from Stuart’s crossing at 10 am on Saturday. Vic will then guide us through Braidwood and out to Monga National Park on a delightful and easy 4wd track which will culminate in a visit to the enchanting Penance Grove, a beautiful shady tree fern glen, deep in the Braidwood wilderness. We will also stop for lunch (bring your own) beside the Mongarlowe River before returning to Braidwood where you can catch up on any shopping that might be needed or even visit the Model Car Shop in the centre of town before returning to camp on the Shoalhaven. The tour fee for this guided tag-along is just $75 per vehicle and the number is limited to just 8 vehicles. It is an extra $10 for two passengers.
